Successful EVERGROW review in Zurich March 5-6
The EVERGROW review in Zurich March 5-6 was a big success. Several accomplishments were labelled "breakthrough", and "exceeds expectations" was another frequent judgement. Big thanks to everyone who helped make this happen! [2007-03-07]

Belief propagation algorithm and applications, February 19-21, HUJI
HUJI has hosted the Belief propagation algorithm and applications, Evergrow message passing workshop, February 19-21, HUJI, Jerusalem, Israel. [2007-02-19]

Evergrow cluster workshop June, 7-8, Jerusalem
HUJI will host a workshop entiteled "The EverLab Cluster and Numerical Experimentation in the Virtual Observatory". Dates are June 7-8, 2006 and more information can be found here. From the web page:

In the last few months the SP2 group headed by Elliot Jaffe finished modifying the PlanetLab software to be used over the Evergrow cluster. We are glad to report that we have now 31 working nodes over 4 sites. In the near future we will continue to expand the installations to all 8 Evergrow sites. All of the Everlab nodes are controlled by central servers located in HUJI - called Everlab (www.everlab.org).

The installed software supports two different computation platforms. First is inter-process communication using the PlanetLab software. This is used for deploying distributed network applications. The second platform is the Condor grid application used to schedule CPU intensive batch work. Furthermore, the shared file system AFS is installed for enabling shared storage spanning over several cluster nodes. MPI and Java are also supported.

Currently the only thing missing for our cluster is: USERS. So we are holding this workshop intended for educating Evergrow users on how to use the Everlab cluster. The target audience is Evergrow researchers which use either intensive CPU simulations or networking applications research.

We suggest that each participating institute will send a person to participate in this workshop. The participant could be either system administrator which operates the cluster (in sites which have clusters) a Ph.D. student or postdoc which are running experiments, or a senior researcher. The final target of this workshop is that each participants will be able to guide new users in its institute and thus disseminate the knowledge in the different institutes.

Another topic of this workshop is numerical experimentation using the virtual observatory. Recently, more and more of the DIMES and ETOMIC data are being release for researches to investigates, and the API is improved for enabling new types of experiments. We would like to use this option for planning new types or experiments and measurements, specifically using the EverLab cluster. [2006-05-16]

EXYSTENCE Thematic Institute
The theme of the Thematic Institute revolves around issues related to the interaction of different networks and their interfacing. Networks constitute the support on which take place biological, social, economical, informational, and many other systems and dynamical processes. An important milestone in topology measurement
DIMES is a new project that aims at accurately mapping the Internet topology using a distributed agent system. The project success depends on the willingness of users around the world to download and activate our agents. The agents will perform network measurements (basically traceroute and ping) at very low rates that will not affect the hosting machines. We currently support MS Windows, and plan a Linux porting soon. To download the agent please point to http://www.netdimes.org We are very enthusiastic about DIMES and hope for your collaboration. Please feel free to forward the above DIMES link to anyone who might be interested in the project. The agent is a result from the Topology measurement group led by Yuval Shavitt at Tel Aviv University. [2004-10-01]

Postdoctoral Fellowships - Aston University
We are looking for highly motivated individuals for two postdoctoral research positions in the general areas of coding and computational complexity. The emphasis of this research will be on applying theoretical and numerical methods from statistical physics to study various properties of multi-user communication systems, distributed computing/communication and related hard computational problems. This research activity is part of a European FP-6 consortium (EVERGROW). http://www.aston.ac.uk/hr/R0468%20advert.htm
