Subproject 4
Message-passing as a general paradigm for control and design
This will extend and generalise the recent successes of complex systems theory
from static optimisation to a control theory of open systems with complex
dynamics resulting from local interactions. A related algorithmic technology
which is currently advancing very rapidly is error-correcting codes and data
redundancy, which play a critical role in assuring that information spread
throughout the world's networks is current, correct, rapidly accessible, and
survives for long periods of time.
We will explore these techniques broadly to
obtain a portfolio of provisioning strategies and determine which best fit the
needs of the Internet of 2025.
